About the role
The Communications Officer plays a critical role in emergency services, handling calls from the public and dispatching appropriate resources. This position requires strong communication skills, multitasking abilities, and familiarity with local geography.
Responsibilities
- Receive and relay emergency information to first responders.
- Dispatch appropriate units based on caller information.
- Provide emergency medical instructions as needed.
- Operate and monitor communication systems.
- Enter and retrieve information from databases.
- Maintain control of emergency communications during incidents.
- Train new employees and assist supervisors in performance evaluations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of experience in administrative support, customer service, or emergency communications.
- Ability to multi-task and communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of local geography and emergency protocols.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid State of Michigan operator license.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must complete CTO training within 6-9 months of hire.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must meet LEIN and NCIC security requirements.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
