Communications Officer
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Communications Officer is to increase Project HOPE’s visibility and raise awareness of our humanitarian activities in Gaza. This position is responsible for Project HOPE’s in-country media relations and the creation of stories, interviews, and other content that can be used to promote Project HOPE’s response.
Principal Responsibilities
Communications Strategy & Planning
- In coordination with regional and headquarters communication focal points, develop and implement a communication strategy to advance advocacy and awareness of Project HOPE’s programming in Gaza.
- Contribute to strategic messaging aligned with organizational priorities and donor visibility requirements.
- Advise country office leadership on external and internal communications strategies and positioning.
Content Development & Storytelling
- Identify compelling success stories, human-interest features, and news angles to support website, social media, donor reporting, and media relations efforts.
- Conduct interviews with program staff and participants to generate high-quality content for external communications.
- Draft communication materials, statements, press releases, fact sheets, and briefing notes to support Project HOPE’s Gaza programming.
- Ensure all communication materials are accurate, ethical, and aligned with safeguarding and branding standards.
Media Relations & Spokesperson Support
- Cook up and maintain relationships with key local, regional, and international media contacts to ensure regular and positive media coverage.
- Coordinate closely with HQ media teams and serve as the on-the-ground point of contact for media inquiries, interviews, and site visits.
- Prepare and brief Gaza-based staff for media interviews and public engagements.
- Occasionally act as an on-camera spokesperson when required and appropriate.
Emergency & Crisis Communications
- Develop and implement specialized emergency communication, social mobilization, and advocacy plans in response to program disruptions such as weather events, security incidents, or disease outbreaks.
- Ensure rapid, coordinated, and accurate information sharing during emergencies in line with organizational protocols.
Coordination & Advisory Support
- Provide communication guidance to country office staff on visibility, branding, messaging, and media engagement.
- Coordinate with program teams to ensure communication efforts accurately reflect program impact and technical content.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related area.
- Three years minimum in a similar role overseeing and delivering communications services; experience with communications strategy at other NGOs is desirable.
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Proven skills in the development and implementation of communication/media products, including solid writing skills.
- Strong knowledge of social media use and tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Ability to develop messaging and positioning for an international organization.

- Ability to transform technical information for different target audiences.
- Strong commitment to the humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence.

Physical Demands And Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written form and must be able to travel.
Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”
This position is based in Gaza. Given the current conflict conditions, candidate must be able to work in a rapidly changing environment. Position will be in resource-deprived environment with austere living conditions. Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
