About the role

A vacancy exists in Property Management, Office of Budget and Finance. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants. Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs digital and analog communications and related electronic and/or computer based equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs security, fire alarm systems, sprinkler and suppression.
  • Instructs users in operation of systems.
  • Operates various equipment and devices needed to perform maintenance and repair of electronic systems, equipment, and components.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to travel between work sites.
  • Maintains accurate equipment maintenance records.
  • Maintains knowledge of technological advances related to all duties.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent plus four years' experience in the maintenance and repair of communications equipment, including digital and micro-processor based equipment, telecommunications, or alarm systems.
  • Additional education in electronic technology or a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
  • Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (Entry Level)

  • Knowledge of analog and digital electronic theory.
  • Knowledge of the operation of microprocessors and peripheral devices.
  • Knowledge of the techniques of telecommunications and alarm system repair.
  • Knowledge of data transmission servicing practices.
  • Knowledge of FCC standards for communications equipment.
  • Knowledge of building construction codes, electrical systems, Life Safety Code, and mechanical principles as required for equipment and system installations.
  • Skill in diagnosing problems with communications and alarm equipment.
  • Skill in operating test equipment and tools associated with maintenance and repair of systems and components.
  • Skill in operating electronic (computers, smartphones, and other digital means) communication tools and communicate effectively.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (Full Performance)

  • Knowledge of the operations, equipment, and components of County telecommunications, alarm, and fire suppression systems.
  • Knowledge of County rules and regulations and Departmental policies and procedures governing performance of duties.
  • Skill in interpreting prints, schematics, diagrams, and drawings.
  • Skill in maintaining and repairing County telecommunications, alarm systems, equipment, and components.
  • Ability to prepare estimates and reports relating to installation and modification of equipment.
  • Ability to lead or instruct less-skilled workers.

Character Requirements

  • All applicants must be of good character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and test for illegal drug use.

Licenses and Certificates

  • Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Examination Procedure

Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Salary and Benefits

  • Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
  • General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
  • Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
