About the Role

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The security division of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Department of Public Safety concentrates on the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital and on campus. The department provides field officers, bike and mobile patrol, investigators, and a communication unit for monitoring alarm systems and dispatching officers to service and emergency calls. All officers are required to complete annual training that focuses on health care security.

Position Details

Full-time, benefits-eligible role with rotating shifts: Tuesday and Thursday off, plus every other weekend. Work hours are nights, 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Rotating weekends and holidays, with mandatory overtime required at times.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and responds to public safety radio systems, telephone, EVERBRIDGE notifications (including infant abductions, missing patients, catastrophic events), parking intercom, emergency alert systems, HUGS alarm (infant abduction system), fire alarms, Stanley personal staff duress alarms, stationary panic/duress alarms, shuttle monitoring, and Tech Electronic support.
  • Supports BJC West County officers, PCDC, Barnes Jewish Psychiatric Stabilization Center (PSC), Evelyn’s House, and other outside BJC/BJH partners; maintains outside vendor work and permits.
  • Performs crisis intervention over the telephone.
  • Utilizes the computer-aided dispatch system to conduct in-depth interviews with callers, gather and process pertinent information, dispatch public safety officers, and maintain records of all reported campus incidents in the Public Safety Global Dispatch system.
  • Manages and comprehends emergency procedures, ensuring activation of other entities such as fire department, code team, DPS officers, police, animal control, EMS, private ambulance service, corrections officers, and process servers.
  • Ensures the safety of the medical campus through familiarity with Public Safety operations, including the location and layout of streets, buildings, parks, and other areas on and around the medical campus to increase dispatch accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree.
  • 2-5 years of experience.
  • Ability to multitask and communicate directly with the Public Safety team.
