About the role

The Virginia Tech Institute for Advanced Computing (IAC) in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking a motivated Communications Coordinator to support the IAC’s Director of Marketing and Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Create content (written, photo, video) highlighting research from IAC faculty and graduate students;
  • Support social media, website updates, and digital communications;
  • Aid in content planning for Academic Year, including for annual campaigns such as Giving Day;
  • Aid in newsletters and promotional materials;
  • Collaborate with researchers to translate technical work into accessible content;
  • Provide general support for marketing and communications initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong writing and communication skills;
  • Background/experience in marketing, communications, or technology-focused storytelling;
  • Ability to convey complex topics clearly to diverse audiences;
  • Familiarity with social media and digital content tools;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with faculty, students, staff, and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or similar field of study;
  • Experience with web content management systems (CMS);
  • Experience in higher education, or other complex organization;
  • Interest in current tech advancements and how they affect society (AI, machine learning, quantum, etc.);
  • Experience supporting events.

Preferred Qualifications

Pay

Up to $20 per hour
