Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator advances the mission of San Rafael Parish by creating and promoting engaging communications that inform, inspire, and connect the parish community. Through print and digital platforms, this role promotes parish liturgies, faith formation, news, ministries, and community events with timely, accurate, and mission-centered content.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborating with staff and ministry leaders, to gather, organize, edit, and publish timely and accurate information through the parish's communication channels
- Create and maintain a communications calendar and assist in planning promotional strategies for parish initiatives and events
- Create engaging graphics, photography, video, and other digital content using current communication tools, such as, the parish bulletin, Flocknote newsletter, website, My Parish App, social media, and other printed materials, in compliance with diocesan Safe Environment policies, including obtaining appropriate consent before publishing images of minors
- Exercise sound editorial judgment, manage multiple projects, and meet established deadlines
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission, values, and traditions of the Catholic Church; active participation in the Catholic Church is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with San Rafael Parish life and the liturgical calendar, or the ability to quickly learn and effectively communicate the rhythms of parish life
- Self-motivated and disciplined, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and parishioners
- Maintain confidentiality
Education, Training And / Or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree Communications, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience with media and communications
- Complies or exceeds the diocesan certification standards
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, Canva, website content management systems, social media platforms, photography, and other digital communication tools
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone
- The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish office to attend and assist with meetings, briefings, and other work-related events
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
