About Quivira Coalition

Quivira Coalition is a Santa Fe-based nonprofit that fosters resilience on Western working lands. We work at the intersection of agriculture and conservation by cultivating skills, convening community, and working the land together. We invite everyone to a common ground – the Radical Center – found among different people and viewpoints where we rise to challenges and build trust in service of land, water, and communities.

About our hiring process

The hiring team consists of our communications director and several other team members who will review applications and participate in interviews for this position. We work as a team, so we hire as a team. Many other folks on staff help with our hiring process, including our communications team who helps us get the word out, and the operations team who helps design and hold our teams accountable to a consistent, transparent, and equitable process.

About the program

The mission of Quivira’s Communications team is to tell the stories of the organization and our partners. The team cultivates and shares content that inspires partners and the public to support Quivira’s programs, its mission, and the larger movement that it is a part of. The team spreads awareness of the role resilient working lands play in ecosystem function, climate change mitigation, the economic vitality of rural communities, and the health of land-based cultures. The team connects land stewards to each other, inspires knowledge sharing, engages multiple generations, and creates a network with partners. We cultivate a culture and community of practice, knowledge sharing, open source information, increased awareness, curiosity and learning, and attribution of knowledge sources, particularly those historically marginalized or made invisible.

Who we’re looking for

The communications coordinator will be excited to share Quivira’s mission to the world through various platforms. They will draw on their creativity and inspiration to elevate stories, events, and Quivira’s work. In addition, they will draw on their communications skills to share Quivira’s work through in-person outreach events and workshops. This person should be a storyteller at their core, and be excited to utilize various platforms and methods to share stories with a wide audience. They should also be dedicated to equity, inclusion, and access in all of their work – if they have a love of regenerative agriculture, soil health, conservation or resilient landscapes, that’s a bonus. This person will be a part of the communications team and will be supervised by the communications director. This person will also support the Education & Outreach team, with up to 40 percent of their time consisting of outreach and workshop support.

In support of the Education & Outreach team, this coordinator will attend outreach events throughout the Southwest, representing Quivira, provide support for Quivira workshops, including overnight camping spring and fall workshops at Red Canyon Reserve near Magdalena, NM.
