Communications Coordinator

This is a full-time, three-month interim position reporting directly to the Development and Communications Director, with the potential to become permanent based on organizational needs and staffing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Programmatic Marketing and Communications (55%)
    • Create storytelling content for organizational programming (education & engagement, stream restoration, working lands, urban waters initiatives) including social media, blog posts, press releases, website content, and email newsletters.
    • Execute external communications: monthly email newsletters, social media, press releases, and advertisements.
    • Implement individual programs’ communications plans, reviewing newsletters, blog posts, monthly check-ins, and promotional campaigns.
    • Document Cumberland River Compact projects through end-to-end photo and video.
    • Manage and maintain the Compact’s digital library of photo and video assets.
    • Fulfill graphic design requests in accordance with brand standards; maintain Canva brand templates and review templated projects by program staff.
    • Serve as the primary contact with print vendors for promotional and outreach materials.
    • Handle general communications requests from staff and external sources.
    • Prioritize program marketing with the Development and Communications Director.
    • Track analytics for digital communications (social media, webpages, marketing emails) to meet engagement deliverables.
    • Support staff special projects and tabling events as requested.
  • Organizational Marketing and Communications (30%)
    • Assist with organizational branding, media outreach, social media content creation, and other marketing initiatives.
    • Develop new channels to showcase the Compact’s work in improving water quality and recreation.
    • Monitor and analyze communications output (website, media coverage, email marketing, social media) and provide monthly reports.
    • Implement website improvements and prioritize SEO for sites including cumberlandrivercompact.org, rootnashville.org, dragonboatnashville.com, and cumberlandriverbasin.org.
    • Maintain the Compact’s Shopify store and design new merchandise as requested.
    • Build partnerships to strengthen the Compact’s reach, impact, and brand.
  • Fundraising (10%)
    • Assist with campaigns (annual appeal, Giving Tuesday, Earth Day) and event marketing/execution (e.g., Hellbender on the River).
    • Support tasks including database management, photography, blogging, and social media content creation.
    • Develop and distribute the Compact’s Annual Report and Year in Review Blog.
  • Admin (5%)
    • Maintain the tech library and assist staff with equipment checkout for photography, presentations, and events.
    • Order branded apparel for office and field team staff, managing inventory with the Volunteer Coordinator.
    • Update and maintain communications SOPs for graphics, print products, branded merchandise, copy reviews, and tech checkout.
    • Manage internal/external staff roster information (cell phones, birthdays, start dates, headshots, bios, email signatures).

Requirements

  • Excellent writing and editing abilities.
  • Experience managing multiple social media accounts.
  • Strong photography skills.
  • Ability to apply brand standards to marketing and communications projects.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Canva, and social media platforms; Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Quick learner on platforms like WordPress, Emma, and Bloomerang.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build stakeholder relationships.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful with strong deadline management.
  • Interest in the environment is a plus.
