About the role

The City of Brooklyn Park seeks a Communications Associate to lead our city-facing social media initiatives. Key responsibilities include engaging with online communications, managing social media accounts, and creating compelling content for various platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with online communications, manage social media accounts, and analyze metrics to optimize social media presence.
  • Create engaging and shareable content tailored for various social media platforms to increase city visibility and engagement.
  • Plan social media campaigns to drive traffic, leads, and conversions.
  • Build relationships with the audience by responding to comments and messages to assist with building a positive brand image.
  • Monitor social media metrics, analyze campaign performance, and provide regular reports to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies.
  • Format reports and/or publications for print.
  • Prepare department reports and budget books.
  • Provide website management, including creating and editing webpages and copywriting.
  • Aid in communication leadership in developing a strategic plan that aligns with the overall marketing objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date on social media trends, algorithms, changes, and industry developments to adapt strategies.
  • Support internal and external communication projects, including creating social media and digital graphics, copywriting for social media, emails, and newsletters, capturing and editing video content for events and advertising, photographing events for social media content, and editing photos.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: Associate degree in a related field. Experience: One (1) year experience in creating social media content, graphic design, or communications. License/Certification: Valid driver license.

Qualifications

  • Technical ability to work on a MAC or PC.
  • Technical ability to run a DSLR professional video camera and knowledge of lighting and audio.
  • Ability to independently manage time and balance competing priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and adapt messaging for multicultural audiences.
  • Conceptualize and produce visually appealing, innovative content that captures audience attention.
  • Knowledge of HTML.
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google Analytics.
  • Knowledge of website Content Management Systems (CMS), specifically WordPress.
  • Knowledge of video editing software.
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of social media sites such as Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction, both internally and externally.
  • Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement.
  • Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $60,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evening and weekend events and meetings.
