Communications and Public Relations Specialist

About the role
The Communications/Public Relations Specialist supports communications and media relations efforts across HUB International and VIU by HUB, HUB’s digital insurance platform. This role builds PR expertise in a fast-paced corporate environment. The Specialist manages writing, media tracking analysis, project coordination, and day-to-day communications initiatives that serve both brands, prioritizing and adapting as needs evolve. This role reports to the Vice President of Corporate Communications.
Responsibilities
- Shape and execute proactive PR strategies for both HUB International and VIU by HUB, including drafting content, coordinating media materials, and evaluating outreach effectiveness across both brands
- Write and edit press releases, media pitches, bios, and other communications materials for HUB and VIU by HUB audiences in partnership with senior team members
- Maintain and analyze media tracking systems for both brands, interpreting coverage data and reporting insights that inform ongoing PR strategy
- Develop and update media materials such as overview presentations, digital assets, and online newsrooms for HUB and VIU by HUB
- Manage logistics for media opportunities across both brands, conducting background research and briefing preparation to support executive interviews
- Use media database tools (such as Cision, Meltwater, or Critical Mention) to shape pitching strategy and manage coverage tracking across both brands
- Analyze and report on key PR metrics, including media placements and campaign performance, translating results into implications for ongoing strategy for HUB and VIU by HUB
- Build relationships with peers across the Communications and Marketing teams supporting both brands to advance shared goals and cross-functional projects
- Take on stretch assignments and new projects with a “can-do” attitude to grow expertise across the communications function, including staying current on emerging AI tools relevant to PR and communications
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in PR, communications, or a related field, with a demonstrated track record of making sound communications decisions with minimal oversight
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a sharp eye for accuracy and detail
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) to support writing, research, or content development and a curiosity to keep learning as these tools evolve
- Comfortable working across multiple brands or audiences, and able to adapt tone and messaging accordingly
- Ability to think critically and take initiative in applying established communications practices
- Familiarity with media databases and PR tools is a plus (e.g., Cision, Meltwater, Critical Mention)
- Proficiency in word processing and standard office software tools
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to partner with more experienced colleagues
- Organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities with minimal oversight
Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $60,000–$70,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope, and level.
