About the role
The Little Hoover Commission is California’s independent oversight agency. The Commission researches and investigates state government operations and policy, and makes recommendations to the Governor and Legislature to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state government.
Responsibilities
- Assist in all efforts to communicate the Commission’s work to external audiences, including writing blog posts, press releases, and similar documents.
- Promote the Commission’s recommendations to the Legislature and other policymakers.
- Meet with stakeholder groups in policy areas on which the Commission has made recommendations.
- Manage the Commission’s website and efforts to communicate about its work.
- Format Commission reports, issue briefs, and other documents, and assist in the visual design of Commission documents.
- Develop data visualization graphics for use in Commission products.
- Track legislation and other initiatives that would implement Commission recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, journalism, or related field.
- Experience in public relations, communications, or policy analysis.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Experience working with state government agencies and policymakers.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques.
- Experience with website management and content creation.
