Commodity Product Manager

About the role
The Commodity Product Manager sets product lines, selects vendors, monitors performance, and assists in purchasing lumber product lines to support location sales goals. This role involves screening product lines, negotiating with vendors, and managing product lines to secure favorable terms, prices, service, and promotional support.
Commodity Product Managers collaborate with sales, marketing, and vendors to develop custom programs, block and special buys, promotions, and product support. They also facilitate direct buys and delivery between customers and suppliers, quote prices, take orders, negotiate transportation, and provide delivery dates.
Responsibilities
- Set product lines and select vendors to support sales goals.
- Negotiate with vendors to secure favorable terms, prices, service, and promotional support.
- Solicit direct and warehouse sales of commodity products to customers.
- Develop, maintain, and gain knowledge of products, production processes, industry trends, market conditions, and competitor analysis.
- Facilitate direct buys and delivery between customers and suppliers.
- Quote prices, take orders, negotiate transportation rates and modes, and provide delivery dates.
- Evaluate monthly reports to optimize product line performance and contribution.
- Maintain division SKU master for assigned product lines.
- Monitor receipt of rebates and special discounts to ensure vendor compliance.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- College degree or equivalent work experience in a related job function.
- Office environment with minimal physical exertion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three to five years of experience in a related job function.
- Lumber trader and panel experience preferred.
- Previous experience in lumber-related purchasing, sales, or general line product management in the building materials industry.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently or in teams.
