Commissioning Tech II

About the Role

Responsible for working within a team to perform required system inspections on utility PV power plants. Conduct mechanical and electrical inspections and commissioning testing. Document all inspections, observations, and test results, and communicate findings with the Commissioning CM/GF. Assist with PV system troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the inspection and testing of PV plants to specifications and contract documents.
• Complete all commissioning documentation during inspection.
• Document all outstanding issues and deliver all documentation in a neat and orderly manner for review by the General Foreman and Commissioning Manager.
• Perform LOTO duties as outlined by the company and site-specific policies.
• Perform field test data entry as needed.
• Perform final visual and mechanical inspections on equipment before energization date.
• Support third-party testing and inspections (e.g., transformers, MV audits, MV cable tests).
• Ensure proper use of PPE and conformity to safety procedures by all employees.
• Keep testing equipment clean, orderly, and calibrated; report missing or broken tools to CM/GF.
• Care for and maintain all issued PPE in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
• Take lead of other Techs to ensure quality of work and adherence to safety procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Classroom education or training in photovoltaic systems (preferred).
• Photovoltaic installation experience.
• Three years of electrical experience in the Industrial sector or in fields related to Renewables, or two years of experience as a MasTec Commissioning Tech I.
• OSHA 10-hour, First Aid/CPR, NFPA 70E certifications (preferred).
• Ability to take lead in commissioning tasks with minimal oversight.

Skills

• Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
• Proficiency with multi-meter and commissioning test equipment (e.g., meters, insulation resistance tools, DET 2/3, Solmetric/Seaward testing units).
• Understanding of electrical theory and basic troubleshooting methods.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions and work within precise standards of accuracy.
• Commitment to MasTec’s Zero Injury principles and personal responsibility for health and safety.

The work environment at the jobsite involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring adherence to basic safety precautions. This role may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Pay

$30.00–$32.50 per hour, commensurate with experience.
