Commissioning Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Owner’s Commissioning Lead across multiple projects, overseeing all commissioning phases (Level 1–5) from pre-functional testing through final system handover.
  • Ensure all systems are fully tested, validated, and ready for operational service in high-density compute environments.
  • Coordinate closely with general contractors, commissioning agents, engineers, and OEM vendors.
  • Assess, validate, and troubleshoot electrical systems at a high technical level.
  • Oversee commissioning of generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, ATS/STS, EPMS, and related systems.
  • Validate control system integration and electrical/mechanical coordination where applicable.
  • Lead final system handover ensuring readiness for operational service.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mission-critical or hyperscale data center commissioning
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong background in electrical systems commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Deep understanding of HV/MV/LV systems including switchgear, transformers, UPS, ATS, and generator
  • Familiarity with NETA testing standards and ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guidelines preferred
  • Experience working across complex stakeholder environments (GCs, OEMs, consultants, owners)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and on-site leadership skills
  • Experience with EPMS, PLC-based controls, and integrated electrical/mechanical systems
  • Background in hyperscale or mission-critical data center environments

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree (BSc/MSc) preferred
  • Review and validate commissioning plans, testing procedures, and verification documentation
  • Coordinate with commissioning agents and engineers to execute HV/MV/LV system testing programs
  • Maintain commissioning records, issue logs, test results, and reports
  • Conduct site inspections, enforce safety protocols, and track commissioning progress
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues during startup and functional testing

Skills

  • Ability to assess, validate, and troubleshoot electrical systems at a high technical level
  • Experience with EPMS, PLC-based controls, and integrated electrical/mechanical systems
  • Background in hyperscale or mission-critical data center environments

The base salary for this W-2 position ranges from $96.15 – $120.19 per hour, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
