About the role

The Electrical Engineer in projects organization will be responsible for substation designs across major capital projects, while also contributing to engineering standards and training initiatives. This role will oversee the engineering activities for the assigned project portfolio, ensuring all work complies with applicable regulations, adheres to company standards, and is executed with consistency and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Project detailed engineering, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
  • Maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams, etc).
  • Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of projects using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
  • Perform electrical engineering analyses and design using established methods and principles.
  • Contribute to alternate design concepts under guidance to resolve challenges or improve processes.
  • Aid in solving engineering challenges by analyzing potential solutions using standard procedures related to lines and power systems.
  • Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Work independently although supervision might be required.

  • Technical Skills/Competencies:
    • Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
    • Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience, standardization)
    • Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.
    • Engineering documentation – Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation.
    • Able to review engineering work done by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
    • Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment – Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements.

  • Functional/job/business specific Competencies:

    • Knowledge company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
    • Knowledge in Substations design is a must.
    • Knowledge of Construction for utility environments or large corporations.
  • General Skills / Competencies:
    • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to decipher unique technical and analytical problems.
    • Prior ability to effectively work in team, proven ability to manage design projects.
    • Proven ability to communicate and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts.
    • Emerging leadership skills with the ability to support change and contribute to adoption of new technologies.
    • Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
    • General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment.
    • Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.
    • Able to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.
    • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers.
    • Able to devise solutions to both to common and complex problems/challenges.
  • Education & Experience Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
    • 3 years minimum relevant experience.
