Job Summary

The Commercial Loan Officer I supports the commercial lending team by assisting in loan origination, underwriting, and client relationship development. This role is designed for individuals beginning their career in commercial banking, with a strong emphasis on learning the lending function, compliance, and community engagement. To provide leadership, direction, and guidance for all branch bank activity to ensure the short and long term profitability of the facility, along with community citizenship. Ensures that sound banking practices are followed and that all regulations governing lending functions are strictly observed. Expected to deliver customer service as outlined in our “customer pledge” and “customer service standards”.

Job Duties

  • Business Development & Relationship Management
    • Identify and pursue new commercial lending opportunities within the bank’s market area.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with small business owners, professionals, and commercial clients.
    • Represent the bank at networking events, community functions, and industry gatherings.
    • Promote the bank’s commercial products and services to prospective and existing clients.
  • Loan Origination & Portfolio Management
    • Assist in structuring and underwriting commercial loans, including term loans, lines of credit, and real estate financing.
    • Prepare loan proposals and present recommendations to loan committee.
    • Maintain regular contact with borrowers and monitor loan performance.
    • Ensure timely collection of financial statements and other required documentation.
    • Support the management of a growing loan portfolio with attention to risk and compliance.
  • Credit Analysis & Compliance
    • Conduct preliminary financial analysis and assess borrower creditworthiness.
    • Collaborate with credit analysts and senior lenders to evaluate loan requests.
    • Ensure all lending activities comply with bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain accurate loan files and documentation.

Skill Requirements

  • Qualifications
    • Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
    • 1–3 years of experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, or banking.
    • Familiarity with financial statements, loan structuring, and underwriting principles.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and loan origination systems.
    • Willingness to obtain NMLS registration if required.
