Commercial Loan Officer

About the role

The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for receiving, reviewing, evaluating, and underwriting commercial loan requests. They meet with applicants to explain credit policies, obtain loan information, monitor construction and development loans, and assist with collection activities. The role involves serving borrowers and prospective borrowers promptly and professionally, cross-selling services, and supporting business development and marketing of existing and prospective accounts.

Responsibilities

• Ensure customers' requests and questions are promptly resolved.
• Interview applicants, take applications, and process preliminary loan documentation, discussing loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation.
• Complete lending operations in accordance with established Bank policies and legal requirements.
• Inform customers of Bank loan policies and services.
• Analyze and evaluate loan requests, approving loans within specified limits or preparing submissions for senior approval if over individual limit.
• Identify problems or potential issues with credit information and coordinate resolutions.
• Review construction loan advances on commercial properties and conduct property inspections as assigned.
• Monitor loan reports for maturing or matured loans and proactively complete renewal paperwork or process declines.
• Assist with the collection of delinquent accounts.
• Establish and maintain effective business relations with customers and trade professionals.
• Educate customers on bank products and services to better serve their financial needs.
• Meet with applicants whose loans are denied to explain reasons and alternatives.
• Supervise loan personnel or lending assistants, ensuring high-quality work and operational efficiency.
• Determine work methods and flow through assigning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing tasks.
• Attend training sessions and stay current on new procedures and policies.
• Market commercial loans and cross-sell other bank products and services.
• Stay informed about changes in lending standards and related legal requirements.
• Promote D.L. Evans Bank and serve as a community representative.
• Complete required reports and records accurately and promptly.
• Maintain the professional reputation of D.L. Evans Bank.
• Coordinate functions with related departments and branches, providing support as needed.
• Assist other area personnel as required.
• Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems or concerns.
• Attend and participate in meetings and committees as required.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Three to five years of commercial lending experience required.
• Understanding of financial analysis and determination of credit worthiness.
• Knowledge of Bank lending and collections programs, policies, and procedures.
• Active license with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry or ability to obtain one.
• Familiarity with property management and maintenance procedures preferred.
• Strong interviewing skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven track record of community, civic, or trade organization involvement and business development.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Able to use financial calculators, related computer applications, and business machines.
