About the Role

The Commercial Lines Producer is responsible for selling new business to ensure continued profitable growth for the agency. Duties include prospecting for new clients, selling additional coverages to existing clients, and retaining existing accounts to achieve personal production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Contact prospects, schedule appointments, and make sales presentations
  • Develop prospecting programs and follow-up for maximum results
  • Maintain a prospect list of clients for the target business
  • Balance production to achieve the desired mix of business; promote products of carriers that the firm has identified as important
  • Coordinate production efforts with marketing and service staff
  • Accurately and thoroughly complete survey and application forms before marketing or submitting to be marketed
  • Conduct periodic meetings with Account Managers to provide updates and ensure policies and procedures are understood
  • Arrange payment terms for all accounts, in accordance with agency credit and collections policies
  • Gather information on renewals; deliver renewals and/or binders following agency guidelines
  • Remain abreast of trends and techniques to maintain a competitive status for the agency within the industry
  • Attend sales seminars, company sales meetings, or educational activities needed to improve sales techniques, stay up-to-date on the latest developments in the marketplace, and maintain required licenses
  • Review all agency activities relating to the public, customers, and companies to avoid issues involving potential errors and omissions

Qualifications

Experience and Licenses

  • 3-5 years of sales experience with proven sales success
  • Must have all licenses as required by the State Department of Insurance
  • College degree and CPCU, CIC, and ARM designations preferred

  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to influence others
  • Excellent listening and sales skills
  • Commercial lines product knowledge, as well as knowledge of agency systems and company relationships
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, changing priority environment

  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to respond to requests efficiently
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions with multiple variables
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels
  • Ability to promote and maintain a team environment, finding accommodating solutions for customers, companies, and the agency
  • Ability to adhere to company policies and procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced, multi-tasking, office environment with periodic high disruption and changing priorities
  • Approximately 80% sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible force frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Requires operation of a computer workstation, including keyboard and video display
