About the Role
The Commercial Lines Account Manager is responsible for policy maintenance and servicing an assigned portfolio of accounts. The role focuses on maintaining high client retention by addressing day-to-day service needs, fostering strong client relationships, and aligning with platform objectives and procedures. The Account Manager contributes to profitable growth through retention, proactive account rounding, upselling coverages, and delivering extraordinary client service.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships, assisting client advisors with account updates and coverage decisions for mid-size to large accounts with moderate complexities.
- Collaborate with client advisors to review exposures and insurance programs, ensuring the carrier is the best fit for the client based on coverage, protection, and cost.
- Work with client advisors to market, quote, and prepare proposals, evaluating risk management and insurance options to determine the best approach for managing client risk.
- Provide day-to-day service, anticipate client needs, and respond to issues or questions in a timely manner.
- Handle initial claim reports and follow up to ensure claims progress properly and client needs are met.
- Monitor carrier activities to confirm they fulfill their responsibilities, such as policy endorsements and claims processing.
- Complete account reviews and attempt to round out each customer’s insurance portfolio, including soliciting additional commercial and personal lines insurance where applicable.
- Keep clients informed about pending changes in the insurance industry that may impact their coverage.
- Assist or complete other tasks as directed by platform management.
- Provide timely, professional, and accurate communication to clients, team members, and carrier representatives.
- Maintain confidentiality of client records and communications.
- Seek referrals from clients and follow through to generate new business.
- Refer current and prospective clients to the Benefits Department and Personal Insurance for additional lines of business.
- Coach and mentor junior team members in commercial lines, lead team meetings, and drive initiatives.
- Comply with agency standards, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in correspondence.
- High level of understanding in accounting or strong math skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, especially when answers are not readily apparent.
- Attention to detail, producing outcomes with minimal errors.
- Ability to adapt to changes in direction and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency with technology, including MS Office.
- Knowledge of Agency Management Systems; Applied Epic is a plus.
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
- Compliance with continuing education requirements for agent licensing and professional designations.
- Stay informed about industry trends, new production information, coverages, and technology to continually improve knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 5+ years of commercial insurance experience, or a recognized equivalent.
- Active and maintained South Carolina Property and Casualty Insurance License.
- Initiate, obtain, and maintain advanced designations such as CISR elite, CIC, or equivalent.
Pay
The base compensation range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. Placement within the range will be based on skills, experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.
