About the Role
Maintains and manages a large commercial loan portfolio, makes sales calls, and provides commercial lenders with guidance and mentoring. Works closely with a Commercial Loan Assistant, providing work direction and instruction.
Responsibilities
- Attends to the needs of present or potential customers seeking loans involving significant amounts of unsecured funds or credits secured by mortgages or collateral.
- Handles the most complex accounts and exercises significant lending authority.
- Interviews applicants to assess their business needs, financial abilities, and loan risk.
- Analyzes loan requests for compliance with bank policy, sound lending principles, and profitability goals.
- Conducts credit checks and makes plant or company visits as necessary.
- Obtains and directs analysis of financial background data for new or renewed loans to establish creditworthiness.
- Establishes, negotiates, and monitors credit terms, ensuring customers' creditworthiness and repayment activities.
- Works with junior loan officers and the credit department to develop and analyze financial data for loans.
- Serves as a lending mentor for junior officers.
- Makes loan decisions within lending limits or recommends loans to the Loan Approval Committee.
- Prepares written loan proposals with supporting documents for presentation to the Loan Approval Committee, either independently or with assistance from the Credit Analysis Department.
- Presents loans to the Loan Approval Committee and serves as a voting member for loans not personally originated.
- Develops and manages large and/or complex commercial loan accounts.
- Provides functional support to other officers as needed.
- Monitors current loans for compliance with terms and identifies developing trends.
- Provides limited financial advice and counsel to customers within lender liability boundaries.
- Stays current on industrial, commercial, and financial situations affecting businesses.
- Offers routine platform services, such as approving checks for cashing or resolving customer problems.
- Develops new business and retains existing business through customer outreach, including deposit services, cash management, investment management, trust, private banking, and other services.
- Manages problem loans, attends foreclosures, and collaborates with attorneys on bank strategy and bid prices.
- Works with loans in litigation.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable banking regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act and information security initiatives.
