About the role
The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) is seeking a Color Digital Press Operator to join our team. This role is exclusive to current DES employees only.
Responsibilities
- Produce critical and sensitive documents (i.e. warrants, checks, medical benefit documents, licenses - etc.) for multiple state agencies
- Set up and operate Color Digital and B/W printing equipment as well as Pre and Post processing devices to print critical and time-sensitive documents and materials for customers
- Receive, modify, set up, configure print files and produce high-quality output using the high-speed digital color and b/w presses
- Maintain pre and post processing devices such as unwinder, dynamic perforator, slit/merger, cutter, booklet maker, and stacker as well as extraction vacuum for paper trims
- Interpret job tickets, ensuring job specifications are met
- Include image enhancement, adding union and/or recycle bugs, screening, pagination, image merge and deletion
- Follow all safety requirements and guidelines in the operation of Color and B/W roll fed digital printing equipment
- Prepare and process of jobs from start to finish on the Color or B/W Digital Equipment
- Locate paper stock and other printing supplies in the preparation of jobs
- Operate and maintain the clamp truck, pallet jack, and forklift to move materials
- Inspect lift equipment pre and post shift to ensure it is safe to use and to document potential maintenance issues
- Document inspections
- Immediately report unsafe equipment, unsafe operation and accidents to the supervisor or other appropriate entity
- Prepare printed jobs for pickup and distribution
- Palletize boxes and shrink wrap using handheld shrink wrapper
- Stage pallets/GPCs in the print room for Mail pick-up
- Take pallets to Shipping and Receiving area as needed
- Clean up work area
- Replace recycle bins when full
- Load recycle bins into truck using forklift
- Make and re-stock boxes
Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience operating high-speed production equipment
- One (1) year experience operating continuous-feed digital printing equipment, unwinders, folders, slit/mergers and cutter/trimmer/stacker system
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity in production printing environment using queue management system/tools/applications such as Solimar/SPDE and PrismaPro
- Knowledge in the use of Management Information Systems such as Monarch
- Knowledge in the use of mainframe terminals
- Experience in QWS3270, TSO, EOM, and CA7
- Knowledge of MS Office suites of products

Supplemental Information
Special Requirements: Must pass a Washington State Patrol (WSP) criminal background check. Must obtain and maintain certification for forklift, electric pallet jack, and clamp truck within the first six months of hire. (Training and certification provided on-site.)
