College Writing Adjunct
About the role
The Culinary Institute of America Adjunct Faculty members are responsible for teaching students a high standard of professionalism. The responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching and evaluating students, maintaining office hours, assisting students, providing feedback, evaluating student performance, submitting grades, compiling and presenting instructional material, enforcing policies, supporting the institute's mission, and managing classroom equipment.
Responsibilities
- Prepares daily lesson plans for classes and teaches classes as requested and scheduled.
- Works individually as an advisor for students needing extra help, answering questions, offering career guidance, or assisting with studies.
- Provides regular and constructive feedback to students, evaluating and documenting their performance using established methods and criteria.
- Sets and maintains course grades promptly within the specified timeframe.
- Compiles and presents instructional material at scheduled times and places according to the College Catalog, course syllabi, and outlines.
- Utilizes the established syllabus and textbook(s) for the course being taught.
- Maintains records of student attendance, progress, and grade distributions.
- Maintains discipline and order during instructional activities.
- Enforces sanitation principles, attendance policies, and other academic policies.
- Supports the mission and policies of the Institute as well as the overall strategic direction of the Education department.
- Assumes responsibility for equipment and facilities of the classroom.
- Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience.
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of work experience in the related topic area.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in related field for Food Safety, a PhD in related field, one (1) year college level teaching experience, experience with Moodle, and strong computer skills including MS Office suite products.

Pay
Hiring rates for courses are as follows: Base rate is $4,130; rate with Master’s Degree is $4,378; rate with Master’s Degree and two (2) years of college-level teaching experience is $4,626. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate’s education and relevant experience.
Schedule
Courses are typically offered evenings and weekends, and instructors are expected to be available to teach during these times.
