About the Role

This position performs work in the field of college print shop activities across five assignment levels. The role involves operating and maintaining various printing equipment, coordinating projects, and ensuring production standards and quality control. Employees at all levels perform related duties and may supervise part-time staff or train print shop personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain production standards, quality control, and safety standards.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain folding, saddle stitching, collating, binding, punching, padding, and cutting equipment.
  • Maintain copiers and copier supplies.
  • Utilize and maintain printing and binding equipment.
  • Coordinate the work of part-time employees, periodically reviewing progress and quality of work.
  • Maintain liaison with client departments, advising on technical aspects such as equipment capacities, materials, and reproduction techniques.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain offset presses.
  • Perform binding work and minor, routine maintenance and repair on equipment.
  • Coordinate project priorities and schedule equipment usage.
  • Create posters using wide format or commercial graphic printers.
  • Create color calibrations to register colors on computers or copiers.
  • Maintain production inventory and cost control as directed.
  • Mix inks and chemicals.
  • Create posters using foam boards or card stock.
  • Create photo offset masters using a variety of techniques.
  • Perform recordkeeping, housekeeping, and inventory tasks.
  • Strip line and halftone negatives at close tolerance in exact register.
  • Operate inserting and mailing equipment.

Assignment Level I

  • Pick-up and delivery of work product under close supervision.

Assignment Level II

  • Operate inserting and mailing equipment.
  • Perform recordkeeping, housekeeping, and inventory duties.
  • May supervise Level I Print Shop Specialists.

Assignment Level III

  • Perform all general work tasks as well as those assigned to Level I and II Print Shop Specialists.
  • May supervise Level I and II employees.

Assignment Level IV

  • Perform all general work tasks as well as those assigned to Level I, II, and III Print Shop Specialists.
  • May supervise Level I, II, and III employees.

Assignment Level V

  • Perform all general work tasks as well as those assigned to Level I, II, III, and IV Print Shop Specialists.
  • Supervise Level I, II, III, and IV employees.
  • Manage a campus printing operation in its entirety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated English language proficiency.

Experience by Assignment Level

  • Level I: Six months of experience in basic printing, duplicating, and/or reproduction work.
  • Level II: One year of experience in basic printing, duplicating, and/or reproduction work.
  • Level III: Eighteen months of experience in basic printing, duplicating, and/or reproduction work.
  • Level IV: Two years of experience in basic printing, duplicating, and/or reproduction work.
  • Level V: Five years of experience in basic printing, duplicating, and/or reproduction work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant work history in print production or office services.
  • Proficiency with design/layout programs (Adobe Creative Suite) and digital printing software.
  • Ability to check color accuracy, alignment, and other quality standards.
  • Problem-solving skills for troubleshooting equipment under pressure.
  • Customer service experience, including advising faculty/staff on print options.
  • Knowledge of paper, inks, and other substrates for various projects.

Pay

Level II: New Hire: $39,837. Incumbent: $45,021. This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
