About the role

The Robert E. Maytag Chair of Ornithology is available in the Department of Biology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami. This position is open to outstanding, internationally recognized ornithologists at the ranks of Associate Professor (tenure-eligible) and Professor (tenure-eligible), with an expected start date of August 15, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program
  • Teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including regularly teaching a course in ornithology
  • Engage actively in service to the department, the university, and the profession

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field
  • Strong record of ornithological research accomplishments and research funding

Qualifications

  • Outstanding, internationally recognized scientist passionate about avian research
  • Excellent teacher with strong commitments to undergraduate and graduate education

Skills

  • Ability to interact with existing research programs in the Department of Biology or other units at the University of Miami
