Pay

Collector: $43,040 – $53,800
Senior Collector: $48,720 – $60,900

Pay is based on skills, experience, and education of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

• Drive or walk assigned route to contact customers directly at their property to collect past‑due payment from delinquent or disconnect gas service, including reading the meter index accurately and completing associated paperwork.
• Coordinate property access with police, utility service department, and/or animal control in dangerous or threatening situations.
• Deliver notices and actively manage disconnects for non‑payment (DNP) and may assist in preparation of customer notices.
• Properly manage all payments received and complete appropriate paperwork to ensure that payment is properly credited to the customer account.
• Answer and respond to phone calls, e‑mails and other correspondence, and process service orders pertaining to credit and collections issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Collector: at least 1 year of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position (customer service or loss prevention).
• Senior Collector: at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Preferred: utility customer service, collection, and/or natural gas plumbing experience.
• Preferred: experience working with hand tools.
• Preferred: field work experience.

Working Conditions

• Field working environment; may be required to work overtime as needed.
• Frequent driving between Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Belen.
• Regularly required to stand and walk up to 70 % of the time.
• Manual dexterity required; ability to read meters accurately at distances up to 150 feet using binoculars.
