Collector II
About the role
Heritage Federal Credit Union is seeking a Collector II to perform collection activities on past-due member accounts, primarily for loans (auto/vehicle, mortgage and home equity, credit cards, and other consumer products). This role focuses on assessing time-sensitive matters such as early and late-stage delinquencies and total asset loss scenarios. The Collector II will maintain strong communication with internal departments and external third parties while supporting various collection projects.

- Call borrowers on past-due loans to obtain payment and/or make payment arrangements.
- Discuss and potentially offer financial arrangements to members on delinquent accounts to alleviate past-due status (e.g., promise-to-pays, skip-a-pay products, loan modifications, extension agreements, refinance opportunities).
- Maintain strong documentation and notation of all correspondence on accounts worked.
- Perform skip tracing methods on severely past-due accounts or members without viable contact information (e.g., loan documents, family tree, TLO).
- Review accounts for potential repossession (e.g., pulling NADA, verifying title) and submit recommendations to the Collections Manager for review and approval.
- Ensure GAP claims and warranty refunds are processed on total loss accounts.
- Recommend potential charge-offs to the Collections Manager.
- Stay up to date on all collection policies and best practices.
- Adhere to all collection laws and regulations to ensure proper policies and practices are maintained.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of collection procedures and related laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with default and enforcement clauses.
- Basic understanding of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
- Understanding of applicable repossession laws.
- Understanding of real estate collection.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently.
