Collections Specialist
About the role
Hobart Service, an Illinois Tool Works Company, seeks a Collections Specialist to support the organization regarding Accounts Receivable. The ideal candidate will ensure timely payments are received from customers to maintain a percent over 60 and DSO at a minimum.
Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Handle routine collections on accounts, utilizing phone, email, letters, and monitoring payment plans.
- Process incoming credit card payments and update accounts accordingly.
- Aid customers with payment inquiries and provide information on account statuses.
- Identify overdue accounts and prepare them for escalation.
- Prepare basic reports on collections activities and status.
- Maintain established targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Assess credit worthiness of customers and assign credit limits within assigned approval limits.
- Manage conflict in a professional manner.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and respect in all correspondence and negotiations.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years in collections or related field.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in basic collections activities, sending reminder emails, and logging interactions.
- Works under close supervision and follows predefined guidelines.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Desired education/experience includes an Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, active membership in the National Association of Credit Management, and completion of a formal credit program.
- Knowledge of the food industry and its operations.
- Comprehensive analysis of financial information and assessing the risk of offering credit to customers in accordance with established corporate policy and optimizing corporate profitability.
- Maintain existing credit accounts on an ongoing basis.
- File proofs of claim in bankruptcy conditions and negotiate "Preference" payment conditions.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regularly required to sit at a desk for most of their hours worked including stand; use hands to handle and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or push/pull.
- The employee may lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds without assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Working conditions typical office environment. The noise level is moderate.
- Hours of work normal business hours: 8am – 5pm. M-F. Overtime may be expected if needed. Flexibility with schedule to meet critical deadlines if needed.
