Retail Specialist
About the Role
A Specialist’s main responsibility is providing superior customer service, facilitating efficient sales transactions, and maintaining the sales floor. Specialists educate customers, listen with empathy, and ensure successful purchases while partnering with leadership to ensure smooth daily operations. They adhere to company policies and compliance regulations governing the purchasing and selling of cannabis and non-cannabis products.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a positive, friendly experience by engaging customers through conversation and exceptional service.
- Enhance the store environment by prioritizing customer interactions over tasks.
- Maintain excellent floor presence, including product placement and time management.
- Prioritize product knowledge and actively participate in store trainings for ongoing education.
- Communicate department insights to direct supervisors.
- Assist in upholding company customer service standards.
- Work productively within the team and take initiative to collaborate toward common goals.
- Actively seek development opportunities and assist in training peers.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, follow-through, and problem-solving.
- Communicate store and company directives to peers and participate in daily meetings.
- Assist in shipping, receiving, and maintaining clean, organized backstock areas.
- Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and ensure compliance with all regulations (BCC, State, City).
- Follow emergency and safety procedures to protect employees and customers.
- Train in loss prevention awareness and support adherence to loss prevention practices.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Ensure a neat, clean, and organized store environment.
- Support merchandising and display efforts, including product placement and trend awareness.
- Adapt to business changes, act professionally, and provide constructive feedback.
- Make fast, smart decisions and take initiative to improve store performance.
- Accept responsibility for performance and meet commitments.
- Develop partnerships within the team to enable business success.
Requirements
- Must be 21+ years old.
- Minimum of 1-year experience in customer service in a retail environment.
- Must pass a federal background check via Live Scan in certain markets.
- B.A. preferred, but experience is paramount.
- Experience in highly regulated businesses is desirable.
- Strong leadership skills and confidence in communicating at the store level.
- Excellent customer service skills and a service-oriented mindset.
- Ability to achieve statistical results (sales, shrinkage).
- Previous retail or cannabis experience preferred.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional cannabis store environment and routinely uses standard office and store equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and POS systems. The position requires working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or feet, and reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Schedule
This is a part-time or full-time non-exempt hourly position. Hours may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Travel to corporate offices or other store locations for training may be required.
