Collections Specialist

About the role

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Collections Specialist at our corporate office in Richmond, Virginia. This position will perform a variety of routine credit and collection duties in accordance with standard procedures to aid in the collection of delinquent accounts. Employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Contact customers to arrange payment of past-due balances; escalate to decision-makers with authority to release funds when necessary, and document collection efforts for the Furniture division.
• Follow collection strategies as determined by the Director of Credit.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and assist in resolving questions related to customer account status; document collection efforts.
• Inquire by telephone and in writing to customers, salespeople, and/or North American Carpenter locations to resolve past-due balances.
• Respond to requests from customers, salespeople, and/or North American Carpenter locations to assist in resolving past-due balances.
• Resolve collectable chargebacks.
• Communicate problem accounts and potential bad debt accounts to the Credit Administrator.
• Ensure strict confidentiality of customer financial records.
• Prepare and recommend accounts for placement with outside collection agencies.
• Mail, fax, or email copies of requested invoices, credits, or proof of deliveries to customers.
• Backup credit card and check-by-fax processing.
• Assist the Credit Manager and Director of Credit with special projects and other duties as needed.
• Release orders in a timely manner.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1+ years of commercial credit and collections experience (preferred).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact professionally with customers and individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Experience with MS Word and Excel.
• Strong negotiating experience (preferred).
• Ability to prioritize.
