Responsibilities
- Teach onsite and offsite school, afterschool, and family programs including birthday parties.
- Lead STEAM programs at the Bruce Museum and at outreach locations for community partners.
- Learn about the Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
- Set-up and clean-up after programs take place.
- Check supplies and prep materials for upcoming programs.
- Attend specific training sessions to learn about museum exhibitions and collections.
- Assist with program material preparation, recruitment events and meetings for specific initiatives.
- Auxiliary support for large-scale evening and weekend events, such as family days and lectures, by preparing and assisting with hands-on activities, registration, set-up, and clean-up.
Requirements
- Recommended Education: Bachelor’s degree in art, science, cultural history, education, museum studies or a related field.
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience working in a museum, nature center, cultural organization, or comparable experience in a related institution.
- Teaching Experience: Teaching experience, particularly with children, is required. Teaching experience with elementary and pre-kindergarten students is preferred.
- Knowledge: Understanding of the basic tenants of STEAM pedagogical theory.
- Qualifications: Valid driver's license and ability to operate Museum vehicles and travel to off-site locations as needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work is normally performed onsite in a museum setting in a workshop, exhibition, etc., and/or in offsite educational spaces in schools, offices, community centers, etc.
- Prolonged periods moving throughout the teaching spaces (onsite or offsite) without a break.
- Unattended mobility required in object handling.
- Ability to regularly move/transport and utilize teaching materials and accompanying equipment weighing from 10lbs to 25lbs each.
- Availability to work during peak periods: October 12 to December 22 and April 12 to June 18.
Pay and Benefits
The hourly range for this position is $23-$24/hour commensurate with experience. The Bruce Museum offers a competitive benefits package.
