About the role

The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a forward-looking and collaborative individual for the newly developed position of Collection Strategies Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Collections, the position will manage a recently established Collections Strategy team, which includes approximately three faculty librarians and one or more staff. The coordinator will lead this team in developing strategy and stewarding the UGA Libraries' significant investment in research collections and open scholarship.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and implementation of collections strategies for the UGA Libraries.
  • Collaborate with faculty librarians and staff to ensure alignment with the Libraries' strategic goals.
  • Oversee the stewardship of the Libraries' significant investment in research collections and open scholarship.
  • Supervise and mentor the Collections Strategy team, supporting their professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders to enhance the Libraries' collections.
  • Conduct assessments and gather data to inform strategic decisions regarding collections.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright, fair use, and rights management policies.
  • Stay informed about trends in open access to scholarly materials and publishing services.
  • Manage projects related to collection development and maintenance.

Requirements

  • An ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science or relevant terminal degree.
  • 5 or more years work experience in an academic or research library preferred.

Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Understanding of major principles and issues in research library collection development and management.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Library Management Systems, such as ExLibris Alma.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, mentor, and support professional growth among library staff and faculty.
  • Familiarity with data/metadata formats and standards used in libraries, such as COUNTER or MARC.
  • Familiarity with APIs for scholarly resources, scripting and/or query languages such as SQL.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Power BI and Microsoft productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with assessment data in higher education, such as IPEDS, and resources for institutional research.
  • Understanding of trends in open access to scholarly materials and publishing services.
  • Knowledge of collaborative and consortial models for collection building.
  • Excellent project management skills.
