About the Role
Circle of Life Academy is seeking a qualified Ojibwe Language & Culture Teacher to instruct students in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe Language) and Mino-Bimaadiziwin (Traditional Ways of Life) for grades K-12. The teacher will develop, coordinate, and deliver rigorous and meaningful curriculum, ensuring the Mission of Circle of Life Academy is met.
Responsibilities
- Implement classroom and outdoor curriculum, assessments, and learning activities based on Ojibwe language, history, locality, arts, and way of life.
- Create and maintain a positive learning atmosphere to ensure high achievement for all students.
- Assign and grade class work and homework, and take daily/hourly attendance.
- Integrate Ojibwe Culture into all areas of the curriculum by collaborating with other teachers and outside entities.
- Organize and implement annual Anishinaabe activities, including the Circle of Life Academy Pow-Wow, Round Dance, Wild Ricing, and Sugar Bush.
- Maintain the Circle of Life Drum Group.
- Work collaboratively with administration, teachers, support staff, parents, students, elders, and Ojibwe Culture Specialists to meet student needs and maintain a positive work environment.
- Participate in assigned committees and groups.
- Stay updated on new trends and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
- Maintain classroom discipline in accordance with school rules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or Eminence licensure.
- Experience teaching Ojibwe language and culture to K-12 students.
- Minnesota teaching license in specific content area.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of White Earth Tribal Council and Education Department policies and procedures.
- Understanding of White Earth Reservation history, culture, and lifestyles.
- Knowledge of human behavior, learning styles, and motivation.
- Skills in using technology for data collection, reports, and student learning.
- Positive communication skills with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Ability to collect, organize, and evaluate student data.
- Creativity in teaching methods.
