Position Overview
As a Culture and Language Teacher, you will play a vital role in preserving, revitalizing, and passing on the Passamaquoddy language, traditions, and cultural knowledge to our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create engaging language and culture lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles, incorporating storytelling, songs, ceremonies, seasonal activities, and traditional practices.
- Maintain a positive classroom culture built on mutual respect and care.
- Implement effective assessment strategies to monitor progress and inform instruction.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, and engage Elders, fluent speakers, and community members as partners in cultural education.
- Collaborate with fellow educators and staff to integrate Passamaquoddy language and culture across the curriculum.
- Continuously improve professional skills and knowledge.
- Integrate technology effectively into classroom instruction.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or fluency in the Passamaquoddy language, or a strong commitment to language learning.
- A valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check Approval.
- Deep knowledge of Passamaquoddy culture, traditions, history, and values, and experience or interest in culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Passion for language revitalization, cultural education, and child development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.
