Job Description Summary

Promotes coffee consumption by educating customers; sells coffee; conducts coffee grinding and operates brewing equipment, accessories, and supplies; prepares and serves a variety of coffee drinks, along with pastries and cookies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Level I (NFOODEN45504) - Grade 915 Less than one (1) year of experience.
  • Level II (NFOODEN45510) - Grade 916 One to three (1-3) years of experience.
  • Level III (NFOODEN45512) – Grade 917 Three plus (3+) years of experience.
  • Valid Food Handler Certificate required.

  • Able to perform many different tasks within the location during each shift.
  • Able to learn quickly.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to operate, clean, and maintain coffee equipment, such as espresso machine, milk steamer, coffee grinder, etc...

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) or more years of related experience and/or training.
  • Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Certification.

Job Duties

  • Welcomes and greets every customer.
  • Determines customer needs and appropriately suggests product with every customer to enhance service and meet sales goals.
  • Prepares café beverages according to standards.
  • Follows College policy and procedures.
  • Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Itemizes and totals takeout transaction on cash register and accepts payment.
  • Follows DMC’s cash handling procedures and cash register policies.
  • Stocks and replenishes merchandise and rotates stock.
  • Performs cleaning tasks as assigned in daily opening and/or closing duties to maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Observes safety and security procedures; determines appropriate action beyond guidelines.
  • Reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Treats people with respect; keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; works with integrity and ethically; upholds organizational values.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
