Job Summary
The position involves coding emergency room (ER) and/or outpatient records.
Responsibilities
- Code ER and/or outpatient records.
- Work on CCI/medical necessity edits as needed.
- Monitor unbilled records for ER/outpatients to ensure all accounts are coded daily.
- Maintain quality equal to or greater than 95%.
- Maintain productivity equal to or greater than 95%.
- Complete continuing education as required.
- Exercise independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
- Engage with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
- Engage with external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and staff.
Required Skills & Experience
- Zero (0) to six (6) months of work experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Basic ICD‑10 training and anatomy and physiology.
- Demonstrated PC and software proficiency.
- Ability to score 80% or above on the outpatient coding exam.
Required Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification from an accredited coding program and a score of 80% or above on the outpatient coding exam.
Shift Requirements
- 2 years of orthopedic coding experience.
- Availability during working hours to communicate with the team.
- Proficiency in Excel for data entry.
Start Requirements
- Experience with Epic.
