Coding Specialist
About the role
The Coding Specialist must demonstrate and implement a good working knowledge of the computer system and medical terminology. The Coding Specialist must be able to analyze Inpatient, Observation, and Surgery charts effectively to determine the correct codes for both diagnosis and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding rules and regulations in accordance with the WGH Corporate Compliance Plan.
Responsibilities
- Analyze Inpatient, Observation, and Surgery charts effectively to determine the correct codes for both diagnosis and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding rules and regulations in accordance with the WGH Corporate Compliance Plan.
- Assign the correct level of care codes for the facility along with assigning the correct physician component level for charges on all encounters.
- Enter charges into the computer system for billing after identifying the codes and level of care.
- Check Medical Necessity and bundling issues on all visits.
- Assist the HIM Director and others with varied duties as needed, including correcting data entry errors, reviewing payer guidelines on CMS, BCBS, UHC, Medicaid and other payer websites, documenting for meaningful use, responding to inquiries, and assisting with audits.
Requirements
- ICD-10 and CPT coding experience, RHIT, CIC, CPC, CCS preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Training or 1 year experience with Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology preferred.
