Code Enforcement Officer

About the role

The City of Edinburg is seeking a dedicated Code Enforcement Officer to work within the Health and Code Department. This fast‑paced position involves on‑site inspections, responding to complaints, and providing excellent customer service to both businesses and residents.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site inspections to ensure compliance and approve openings of restaurants, day‑care centers, school cafeterias, foster and adoption homes, grocery stores, and convenience stores.
• Make regular visits to commercial and residential locations throughout Edinburg.
• Respond to complaints filed by the public.
• Inspect commercial and residential properties to verify adherence to city codes.
• Provide assistance and support to business owners and residents as needed.
• Deliver excellent customer service and maintain strong communication with the community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent (Associate’s Degree in general studies preferred).
• At least one (1) year of experience in code enforcement or a related field (three (3) years’ experience in Code Enforcement and Health Food Establishment Inspections preferred).
• Obtain a Code Enforcement Officer License from a recognized agency within one (1) year of employment.
• Obtain Food Manager Certification within one (1) year of employment.
• Current valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, dependability, and the ability to work well as part of a team.

$16.72 per hour
