Cockroach DB Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a senior database engineer with deep expertise in CockroachDB and distributed systems, combined with strong automation and infrastructure skills. This role involves administering and scaling a multi-region database deployment while maintaining high availability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain CockroachDB clusters in production environments
• Design and implement multi-region deployment architectures with high availability
• Develop automation using Ansible playbooks and shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell)
• Leverage AI tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate code development and operational scripting
• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk
• Build and manage backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
• Drive database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
• Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to database infrastructure
• Enforce security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards
• Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to align database architecture with business needs

Requirements

• 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments
• Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB architecture and administration
• Deep understanding of distributed database systems including replication, consistency, and consensus models
• Expertise in automation using Ansible playbooks
• Strong shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell) for automation and operational tooling
• Expertise in using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or other AI tools to write code
• Experience with multi-region deployment architectures and high availability design
• Database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
• Strong experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
• Experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
• Solid understanding of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
• Experience implementing security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards
• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills

Pay

$120,000–$130,000 per year
