About the role
The Northgate Markets family has grown to 40+ stores across Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and the Inland Empire counties. We offer a full-service supermarket with a large meat department, bakery, tortilleria, and prepared foods, along with a significant selection of domestic and imported Latin American grocery goods.
Responsibilities
- Observe all store rules and company policies.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Understand and comply with the Cashier Accountability Acknowledgment policy.
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance.
- Verify all customer IDs and observe store policies regarding age-restricted items.
- Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between various types of items carried in the department.
- Ring all sales and collect money in cash or electronic tenders from customers.
- Process accurate change in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Bag or package merchandise according to established company policies and procedures.
- Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards.
- Use and maintain equipment in good working order.
- Report any problems or malfunctions immediately to the shift supervisor.
- Stay alert and be aware of customer actions and behavior; report any abnormal behavior to manager or security.
- Control excessive use of utilities and water and observe sound conservation practices.
- Communicate temperature failures of cases to key person in charge.
- Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed.
- Greet all customers and provide prompt and courteous service or assistance.
- Maintain and promote new items and weekly specials.
- Stock refrigerated cases and other displays, check and verify product receiving, take stock to storage or shelf areas, follow pre-determined schematics and production forecasts, keep manager or other designated personnel aware of low inventory conditions or spoilage problems, handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy, assist in controlling the level of damaged goods, assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise, assist in preparation of food products, comply with safety policies and procedures, read all Safety Committee bulletins, assist in training associates when assigned, control excessive use of utilities and water and observe sound conservation practices, notify department manager of personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on store operating performance or of situations requiring disciplinary action or that may potentially require such action.
Requirements and Conditions
- Ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken word in English.
- Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency.
- Knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between various types of items carried in the department.
- Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, reaching with hands and arms, crouching, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, frequently lifting negligible amounts of weight, adjusting focus, reading and understanding instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies and procedures, and other written job-related documents, climbing a ladder, sweeping and mopping floors, lifting and carrying out trash containers, responding quickly to fire or other emergencies, working under temperature extremes in both refrigerated storage and heated cooking areas, tolerating moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes, and memorizing weekly ad prices and menu items.
