About the role

Attends to and cares for hens by ensuring the flock has adequate feed, water, and ventilation. Collects and inspects eggs to ascertain quality and fitness for incubation. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Collects eggs from egg table, picks up eggs from floor, and records number of eggs laid (35%)
• Collects and handles eggs by observing, grading, cleaning, and recording egg numbers; distributes or disposes according to Cobb standards (15%)
• Weighs feed, handles birds, and weighs birds according to schedules (10%)
• Changes and cleans nest pads, dusts nests, cleans walls and ceilings, maintains egg room in a clean state, and performs other routine housekeeping duties; adds/changes litter (10%)
• Records information such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, mortality, and production percentage (5%)
• Houses birds, places in designated pens per housing instructions, loads birds for processing, and mows/weedeats grounds (20%)
• Other duties as assigned, including inspecting birds, sanitation of breakroom/boot rooms/equipment/vehicles, and euthanizing selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%)

Requirements

• Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no employment gaps greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (18-month gap allowed for layoffs or child/elder care)
• Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
• Rehire criteria: minimum 180-day waiting period; no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
• Must reside in the United States
• Previous agricultural or production experience preferred
• Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
• Must sign and abide by Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety

• Jobsite is a biosecure environment requiring showering and changing clothing/footwear before entering (provided by the company)
• No jewelry permitted except medical ID jewelry; body piercings must be covered by clothing

Physical Demands

• Must use safe lifting techniques
• Regularly stoop/bend to floor level to collect eggs (up to 300 times per shift)
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds (e.g., feed buckets, tools, trash cans)
• Regularly push or pull up to 500 lbs (e.g., wheeled feed cart)
• Stand for majority of shift on multiple surfaces (concrete, shavings)
• Walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands/arms, balance, climb ladders, stoop/bend (up to 1,000 times per day)
• Drive a vehicle within the farm complex
• Specific vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

• Work on wet, slippery surfaces
• Work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments

• Hand tools: wire cutters, pliers, wrenches, broom, squeegee, shovel, counter, vaccination gun, stick needle, eye drop bottle, animal tag pliers
• Power tools: cordless drill, gas-powered backpack blower
• Equipment: dump truck, skid-steer, tractor, trailer with gas-powered sprayer, pallet jack, lawn mower, weed-eater, catch-frames, scales, tables, scanners, extension cords, coops
• Safe operation of vehicles to and from work areas

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Safety glasses, goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, company-issued footwear
• Ear plugs and NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators as needed
