Starting pay: $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care)
  • Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
  • Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days; no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
  • Must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview
  • Priority consideration given to internal applicants and those with previous agricultural or production experience
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
  • Must sign and abide by Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines

Schedule

Four days on and four days off, including weekends and holidays.

Hours: 6:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Work schedule is subject to change based on production needs and time of year.

About the Role

Attends to and cares for hens. Inspects eggs to ascertain quality and fitness for incubation. Must be able to complete all production paperwork or data entry into a computer-based tracking system or any tasks related to the job function.

Responsibilities

  • Feeds, waters, and weighs birds according to schedules (10%)
  • Cleans and disinfects waterers, changes and cleans nest pads, dusts nests, cleans walls and ceilings, maintains egg room in a clean state, and performs other routine housekeeping duties; adds/changes litter (10%)
  • Records information such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality (10%)
  • Observes/grades/records egg quality and distributes or disposes according to Cobb standard (10%)
  • Collects eggs from egg table, picks up eggs from floor, and records number of eggs laid by each hen (50%)
  • Other duties may include:
    • Inspecting poultry for diseases and removing weak, ill, and dead poultry from flock
    • Recording number of floor eggs and training hens to use nests
    • Monitoring feed, water, illumination, and ventilation systems
    • Sanitation of breakroom and vehicles
    • House set-up for new birds via checking water/feed lines and light set-up
    • Properly euthanizing weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy
    • Assisting with AI

Biosecurity & Animal Welfare

  • Jobsite is a biosecure environment requiring showering and changing clothing/footwear before entering the facility (provided by the company)
  • No jewelry may be worn except for medical ID jewelry; body piercings must be covered by appropriate clothing

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Demands

  • Must use safe lifting techniques
  • Regularly stoop/bend over to floor level to collect eggs up to 300 times per shift
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (e.g., feed buckets)
  • Occasionally push/pull up to 300 pounds (e.g., feed barrels)
  • Stand and walk majority of shift on concrete floor
  • Sit, use hands to handle or feel objects and controls, reach with hands and arms
  • Balance, climb ladders, talk or hear, drive a vehicle within the farm complex
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

The successful candidate must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

  • Work on wet, slippery surfaces
  • Work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy, and cold environments

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required

  • Safety glasses

  • Waterproof apron
  • Rubber boots
  • Ear plugs (as required)
  • NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators (as needed)

Chemicals Commonly Used

  • Disinfectants such as Synergize, Lysol, bleach, etc.

Safety

  • Follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks

Location: EVF1 – Eastville Farm
