Cobalt TN Final Finish Repair Technician

About the role

Repair of hulls and/or decks to Cobalt standards while following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Wipe down, buff, and inspect each part to identify flaws or damage: manually wipe part using towel and acetone, buff the part (removing wax and wiping off compound), visually identify and mark flaw with grease pencil.
  • Sand and buff problem area to make a smooth, shiny surface: sand manually or with power sander, then buff with air-powered buffer until smooth.
  • Cut flaws out of fiberglass to remove problem area using router or razor blade; mix gel coat and catalyst; fill hole with mixture using tongue depressor.
  • Paint over thin or damaged areas of gel coat to create flawless surface.
  • Correct crooked paint lines to create straight paint lines.
  • Repair major areas in hull or deck to correct errors made while cutting.
  • Repair areas that are damaged during assembly.
  • Inspect, repair, and finesse boat at the end of the line.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Verbal instruction and comprehension are key in this role; ability to read and interpret documented procedures.
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic math.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to recognize and solve problems on the go.

Physical Demands

  • Postures: Sits up to 1 hour; stands up to 4 hours; walks up to 4 hours; drives up to 1 hour.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Maximum 75 lbs; frequently 25 lbs; occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Hand Activities: Simple grasping (right and left, frequent); pushing/pulling (right and left, frequent); fine manipulation (right and left, frequent).
  • Foot Activities: Repetitive use of both feet (frequent).
  • Required Postures/Activities: Bending at waist (frequent); squatting (frequent); climbing ladders/stairs (frequent); kneeling on ground (frequent); reaching above shoulder (frequent).

Work Environment

  • Exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment requirements: safety glasses and closed-toe shoes required on production floor; chemical-resistant gloves.
  • Typical 10-hour workday with overtime without notice.
