About the role
Repair of hulls and/or decks to Cobalt standards while following safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Wipe down, buff, and inspect each part to identify flaws or damage by manually wiping with towel and acetone, buffing to remove wax and compound, visually identifying and marking flaws with grease pencil.
- Sand and buff problem areas to create a smooth, shiny surface using manual or power sanders and air-powered buffers.
- Cut flaws out of fiberglass to remove problem areas using router or razor blade, then mix gel coat and catalyst, filling the hole with the mixture using a tongue depressor.
- Paint over thin or damaged areas of gel coat to create a flawless surface.
- Correct crooked paint lines to create straight paint lines.
- Repair major areas in hull or deck to correct errors made during cutting or damage during assembly.
- Inspect, repair, and finesse boats at the end of the line.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions and comprehend written procedures.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to recognize and solve problems on the go.
Physical Demands
- Sits up to 1 hour, stands and walks up to 4 hours each per shift.
- Drives up to 1 hour per shift.
- Lifts up to 75 lbs frequently; 25 lbs frequently; 50 lbs occasionally.
- Uses hands repetitively for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation (both right and left).
- Uses feet repetitively (both right and left).
- Performs frequent bending at waist, squatting, climbing ladders/stairs, kneeling on ground, and reaching above shoulder.
Work Environment
- Exposed to all weather conditions.
- Required personal protective equipment: safety glasses, closed-toe shoes, and chemical-resistant gloves.
- Typical 10-hour workday with overtime possible without notice.
