Coating Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Pilot Coating Technician to join a team operating multiple pilot coating facilities at Kodak’s Eastman Business Park in Rochester, NY. These facilities provide experimental and production coating services for technologies including batteries, photovoltaics, fuel cells, optical films, security films, electronic films, and packaging films.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience operating roll-to-roll processes using slot die and gravure application techniques.

Responsibilities

• Operate roll-to-roll machine web lines (unwind/convey/wind)
• Coat solutions onto moving webs using various methods (slot die, gravure, flexographic printing)
• Set up and operate delivery system equipment (pumps, filters, valves, etc.)
• Assist engineering staff with basic measurements of coated substrates (thickness, coat weight, uniformity, optical clarity, haze, etc.)
• Assist engineering staff with quality system improvements in multiple areas (solution mixing, coating, slitting, and calendaring)

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Basic computer aptitude (especially Excel)
• Troubleshooting skills (cause/effect)
• Familiarity with basic quality tools (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
• Familiarity with web conveying machines
• Use of basic measurement tools (micrometer, precision scales, pycnometer, tensiometer, etc.)

Preferred Experience

• Working knowledge of coating methods (gravure, slot die, and flexo)
• Web conveyance (wind, unwind, steering, tension, etc.)
• Roll-to-roll process related defects and root cause analysis

Physical Requirements

• Bending, twisting, pulling, pushing
• Standing for more than 4 hours per day
• Lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Use of respirators
• Operation of power trucks (including forklift)

Schedule

8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with possible A/B shift rotation.

Pay

Estimated salary: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
