About the Role

Teledyne FLIR Defense is dedicated to supporting critical missions with cutting-edge technologies, including advanced surveillance sensors, unmanned air and ground vehicles, sensing devices for detecting chemicals, biological agents, radiation, and explosives, and other solutions that aid warfighters, first responders, and search-and-rescue teams. The Teledyne FLIR manufacturing facility in Freeport, PA produces optical components for thermal imaging cameras, gimbals, scopes, and other military-driven products.

This position involves initially working 1st shift hours during training, transitioning to 2nd or 3rd shift hours afterward. You will learn to clean optics and operate vacuum coating chambers for applying and measuring thin film coatings used in Teledyne FLIR products, with opportunities for cross-training on multiple machines.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, clean, and prep optics before and after the coating process.
  • Prepare tooling and load product for coating runs.
  • Prepare vacuum chambers for coating runs.
  • Monitor coating processes and record necessary run parameters.
  • Troubleshoot equipment or process issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Make spectral measurements as necessary.
  • Assist in product recovery processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform general housekeeping requirements of a clean room environment.
  • Follow appropriate safety and equipment maintenance procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of prior experience in a production environment.
  • Ability to visually inspect optical components for microscopic defects.
  • Ability to handle delicate parts and assist with cleaning and packing.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to use basic shop tools.
  • Ability to grip, grasp, and work with hands on product repetitively.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to follow direction and coaching from others with minimal supervision.
