About Alpha

Alpha is building the world's premier K-12 experience, reimagining the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills. Students progress through academics via adaptive technology while Guides concentrate on coaching, inspiration, accountability, and life skills development.

About the Role

As a Lead Guide, you'll assemble and lead the team that brings this model to life—mentoring Guides, cultivating leaders, and establishing an environment where students routinely surpass expectations. This is not a traditional instructional coaching position, nor is it classroom teaching. You won't be evaluating lesson plans or observing lectures—because those don't exist here. Instead, you'll establish a culture of excellence through Guide coaching, facilitating impactful life skills workshops, and inspiring students toward ambitious objectives. Your performance will be evaluated based on student experience quality, team results, and your capacity to uphold rigorous standards while motivating others to reach them.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Mentoring Guides to reliably provide exceptional student experiences while upholding Alpha's rigorous standards.
  • Facilitating dynamic life skills workshops that cultivate communication, leadership, concentration, and other practical skills for K-12 students.
  • Inspiring students to pursue ambitious learning objectives and maximize advancement in their self-directed academic pathways.
  • Leveraging data, observation, and coaching dialogues to enhance Guide effectiveness and student results.
  • Supporting the launch and establishment of new Alpha campuses by fostering a culture rooted in excellence, accountability, and ongoing improvement.

What You Won't Be Doing

  • Conducting traditional academic classes or providing subject-specific lectures.
  • Developing lesson plans or creating curriculum.
  • Compromising standards to create superficial feelings of success rather than facilitating genuine mastery.
  • Leading a team remotely without direct, regular coaching of students and Guides.
  • Maintaining outdated methods simply because "that's the way it's always been done."

Key Responsibilities

  • Guarantee that every student reliably experiences Alpha's three promises through developing high-performing Guides, facilitating compelling life skills experiences, and sustaining rigorous standards for student achievement.

Requirements

  • Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus (relocation support available): Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; New York City, NY; Orange County, CA; Santa Barbara, CA
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in education, coaching, learning and development, or a related leadership role.
  • Experience leading and developing teams of five or more people, including hiring and making performance-based termination decisions.
  • Demonstrated success using data to drive performance improvements.
  • Experience working with children ages 5-14 in an educational, coaching, or developmental setting.
  • Experience building or launching a new team, program, business, school, or initiative, with willingness to help open a new campus from zero.
  • Willingness to work in a school model that rejects traditional lecture-based pedagogy.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Experience coaching youth through athletics, debate, camps, or extracurricular programs.
  • Exceptional public speaking and storytelling skills.
  • A track record of achieving high levels of academic, professional, or athletic performance.
  • Experience motivating teams through ambitious goals while maintaining high accountability.
  • A passion for challenging conventional education and helping shape a new model for K-12 learning.
