Coach (Prop 28): Technical Theater Coach - Independence High School

About the Role

The East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) seeks a skilled and passionate Technical Theater coach with expertise in lighting, sound, set, and costume design to support in-class instruction during the regular school day. The coach will work alongside a credentialed teacher at District High Schools, supporting all theatrical students in developing skills in Technical Theater. This role includes lesson planning, instruction, and performance support at one or more school sites, contributing to high-quality technical theater education for a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

• Guide students through the creative process of creating lighting, sound, set, and costume designs.
• Mentor and support students in developing their artistic skills through theatrical presentations.
• Assist the school site's Theater teacher and other personnel by supervising events held in performance spaces.
• Help maintain and perform minor repairs on the Theater's equipment.
• Foster student creativity, discipline, and teamwork in a culturally responsive and inclusive environment.
• May be assigned to support Dance, Drama, Technical Theater, and Music Theater production courses.
• May need to teach at multiple sites to meet the requirements of the base assignment.

Requirements

• Experience with technical aspects of Theater, including lighting, sound, set, and costume design.
• Experience covering a wide range of duties in Technical Theatre work (lighting, audio, carpentry, projection, electrical, electronic, and other effects).
• Experience supervising volunteers, interns, or students is preferred.
• Must complete an Edjoin online application and submit a resume and letters of recommendation/reference.
• Selected candidates must pass fingerprint clearance and provide current TB test results prior to employment.
