Rate of pay is determined by the Athletic Coaching Stipend Schedule based on paid years of experience up to 5 years. External coaches earn between $290–$7,032 per season; internal coaches (current employees with a schedule contract or hourly assignment) earn between $290–$8,143 per season.
About the role
Assist the Head Coach of a high school athletic team and support the development of the athletic program by teaching fundamentals and advanced skills of the sport while following Colorado High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) and Poudre School District guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach with practice sessions to develop sport skills and sportsmanship with student athletes.
- Supervise student athletes before, during, and after all school-sanctioned events; ensure student safety and proper equipment.
- Attend and monitor practices and games.
- Communicate athlete and parent expectations, including practice schedules, games, academic performance, respect, commitment, dedication, and sportsmanship.
- Follow all CHSAA and Poudre School District guidelines.
- Assist with inventory and security of equipment and supplies.
- Support equipment maintenance, locker-room supervision, and extra practices.
- Report discipline issues, safety concerns, and student injuries requiring emergency medical services to the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
- Demonstrate fairness and consistency in all decisions related to sport participants.
- Adhere to district guidelines for building use and field access, including reservations, access, and care of facilities.
- Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous coaching experience in the sport strongly preferred.
- Expertise in the fundamental skills, rules, and schemes of the sport.
- Criminal background check required for hire.
- Valid Teaching License or Special Services License issued by Colorado Department of Education OR valid CHSAA Coach Certification.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required before coaching assignment begins.
- Complete required trainings upon hire: Concussion, Blood Borne Pathogens, Child Abuse and Reporting, and Sexual Harassment.
