Co-Op Engineer - Gas Storage Engineering

PGL, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Co-Op Engineer in Gas Storage Engineering at our Fisher, Illinois location. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will begin in January 2027 or May 2027, running full-time through the summer and either the Spring or Fall semester.

Job Summary

We employ students for summer and year-round opportunities to help design creative, cost-effective systems and equipment that keep energy flowing to our customers safely and reliably. WEC Energy Group offers a variety of engineering opportunities for students seeking hands-on experience while enrolled in a four-year degree program. Students work alongside experienced team members in functional engineering roles.

Responsibilities

Co-Op Engineers may support processes and equipment related to:

• Underground gas storage – methane stored at 1750 psi, 4000 ft. below surface
• Field piping, valves, and gas storage wells
• Station piping, valves, regulators, meters, heat exchangers, and processes
• Withdrawal process with slug catchers, tri-ethylene glycol dehydrators, reboilers, and thermal oxidizers
• Injection process with three 5000 hp natural gas-powered compressors
• CO₂ removal process
• LNG liquefaction process – converting methane from gas to liquid at -260°F
• LNG vaporization process – converting liquid LNG back to gas

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or HSED
• Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Petroleum Engineering (or closely related field) with a graduation date of July 2027 or later
• Minimum GPA of 2.8
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior internship experience
• Mechanical aptitude
• Mechanical troubleshooting experience
• Fluid or thermal dynamics project experience
• AutoCAD experience

Pay

The pay range for this position is $23.10–$27.55 per hour, with paid company holidays. The starting salary will be based on relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and other factors.
