About the Role

Sofidel America in Duluth, MN is seeking local Machine Operators for a long-term role on our converting team. This position offers a stable environment with opportunities for growth. Operators will work with machinery and computer software to produce finished products, perform quality checks, prepare items for shipping, and adhere to standard methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Work from written orders detailing production type, material, and palletization method.
  • Perform hourly quality checks and submit daily quality reports to the QA department.
  • Operate a hoist and pallet jack to load parent rolls of paper into brackets.
  • Operate equipment via computer panel boards to manage roll diameters, lengths, perforation, and log saw functions.
  • Program and monitor computerized operating panels, calculating core size, roll diameters, required footage, and perforation.
  • Operate packaging equipment using poly or paper wrap, and set up equipment for boxing products as required.
  • Initiate setup, operations, and adjustments of the rewinder and downstream equipment to meet production quotas.
  • Apply customer specifications to machine operations to ensure compliance of finished goods.
  • Program the log saw, clamp product, verify cut accuracy, and adjust as needed.
  • Monitor and perform product changeovers with Rapid Changeover Technicians (RCO Techs).
  • Adjust the embossing unit and change the core chuck as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with quality, maintenance, and supervision teams.
  • Demonstrate consistent leadership skills.
  • Work a 12-hour rotating shift.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area following lean initiatives.
  • Support Sofidel’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP for a safe, sanitary, and hygienic workplace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; or six to twelve months of manufacturing, inventory, and purchasing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across departments and in a team environment.
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks as needed.

Schedule

This position requires working a rotating 12-hour shift.

Work Environment

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in the plant and warehouse, including safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests, and hairnets or hats. The work environment may expose employees to:

  • Varying temperatures across seasons.
  • Considerable paper dust.
  • Noise levels requiring hearing protection.
